Walking with German Culture Minister

High-ranking visitor from Germany: The State Minister of Cultural Affairs, Mr. Neumann and his delegation had chosen the Shanghai-Flaneurs to accompany them on a cultural walk through. Guided by Dr. Marcus Hernig and Katja Hellkoetter, the tour started at Hongkou district, known for its literary and cultural tradition. There, topics discussed included not only intellectuals, revolutionaries, and artists before 1949, but also contemporary issues such as the importance of culture in Chinese society today, the development of a cultural industry, or the role of artists in China. The day ended at the Bund, Shanghai’s world famous landmark, where the signs of Europe‘s former cultural and political influences on China are still visible in its architecture.
