Dr. Iris Belle

Architect, Geographer, Assit. Prof. at Tongji University

Assist. Prof. Dr. Iris Belle teaches at Tongji University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning and researches how urban visions and the way professionals work together to make them happen shape our buildings, neighborhoods and society. Drawing on her research, Iris consults planning and design firms and creates concepts for making cities nicer places to live in.

Iris arrived in Asia from her native Germany in 2003 and has lived in Beijing, Tianjin, Singapore and since 2016 in Shanghai. Iris is the author of the book “From Economic Zone to Eco-city?” She holds a PhD in Geography from Heidelberg University, a Diploma of Architecture from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and a Chinese Language Certificate from Beijing Normal University.
